Elected officials · salaries set by the County Convention under RSA 23:7

Seven elected offices, surveyed on their own terms

The Register of Deeds, Sheriff, County Attorney, Treasurer, two Commissioners and the Chair of the Board are not on the wage charts. Their salaries are set every two years by the County Convention, the county's legislative delegation, under RSA 23:7. The RFP asks for survey information on all seven.

How we survey them

  • Every other New Hampshire county sets the same offices the same way, so the ten counties are the core comparison, with population, budget and caseload shown beside each salary.
  • For the County Attorney and Sheriff we add the full-time and part-time question (several counties pay part-time prosecutors or rely on deputies' overtime) and the pay of the senior appointed staff below them, so the elected salary does not fall below the people the office supervises.
  • For the Treasurer and Commissioners, whose duties are part-time, we report salary and any stipends or benefits separately.
  • We give the Convention a recommended figure for each office with the comparison behind it, timed to its next biennial vote.
